Tchoukball has become the latest sport and recreation organisation to sign up to the Voluntary Code of Good Governance for the Sport and Recreation Sector.
Tchoukball UK became the 76th signatory of the Code on Saturday when Chief Executive, Philip Moore, put pen to paper at the Tchoukball National Finals in the Kettering Arena.
The Voluntary Code was launched in 2011, by a coalition led by the Sport and Recreation Alliance.
The Code is designed to enable sport and recreation organisations to aspire to and maintain good governance. It is a tool to help boards perform their role by outlining seven simple principles in the following areas:
Helen Tan, Acting Head of Operations at the Sport and Recreation Alliance, thinks that the plans which Tchoukball has put in place could well serve as an example to other small but growing governing bodies.
"We're really pleased that Tchoukball UK has become the 76th signatory of the Code. They are a brilliant example of just what can be achieved by a 100% volunteer lead organisation.
"Since becoming a Community Interest Company (CIC) in 2013 Tchoukball has gone from strength to strength – rapidly increasing its participation base and successfully re-launching the National Championships.
"Over the last six years a coaching structure has been developed and coaching courses delivered across the UK resulting in more than 1,000 level 1 coaches being certified. This improved infrastructure and Tchoukball UK's involvement in the Youth Sport Trust Matalan Sporting Promise have seen growth from 600 active players to over 10,000 players in only seven years.
"Signing up to the Code is just another step in Tchoukball's journey to a brighter and better future."
