Next week members of the Sports Betting Group – a group coordinated by the Sport and Recreation Alliance and chaired by Alliance Chief Executive Tim Lamb – will meet the Minister for Sport, Helen Grant, to discuss how to prevent match-fixing.
In light of the widely publicised corruption scandals that emerged before Christmas, sport betting integrity remains high up on the sporting and political agenda.
In the meeting with the Minister next week, the Alliance will discuss the work being undertaken to prevent match-fixing and encourage the Government to provide greater support for NGBs in this area.
The Alliance has been working hard with the Sports Betting Group to ensure that sports bodies, regulators and the Government continue to treat the issue of match-fixing as a high priority.
As part of this, the Alliance is also working with peers in the House of Lords to bring about improvements to the Gambling Bill which is due to have its Report Stage in late February.
