Ofsted has published a report on the PE and sport premium for primary schools which highlights good practice to maximise effective use of the funding.
The PE and sport premium is government funding for maintained primary schools and academies to improve the provision of physical education and sport.
The Ofsted report was commissioned by Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector to identify and share good practice in 22 schools.
The survey found that in the majority of the schools visited, headteachers are using the additional funding to make improvements to PE and sport, including in competitions, for pupils. The report also includes good practice case studies.
The report suggests recommendations for schools and calls on Government to provide further advice to schools about how to engage health agencies and parents to promote pupils’ health and wellbeing.
It also states that Ofsted will continue to evaluate the use of the premium in section 5 inspections, focussing particularly on effective monitoring of impact.
