The qualifications will be taught in the UK from September 2016 alongside A Levels and other vocational studies.
Established by Active IQ, the government has approved a Level 3 Technical Diploma and a Level 2 Technical Certificate in Physical Activity. The qualifications, developed in collaboration with major with employers and training providers from the active leisure sector, identify the skills required for a range of roles, including fitness instructing, personal training and leisure operation.
The new qualifications will also enable access to higher education degree programmes, with the Level 3 Diploma accepted on the UCAS Tariff for progression from 2017.
Active IQ’s Managing Director Jenny Patrickson commented: “Gaining approval for our new Technical Level qualifications is a key development for our Active Pathway for students. We can now equip learners aged 16-19 with a clear line of sight to gain full employment in our ever-expanding sector and ensure our qualifications provide operators with high calibre graduates who can hit the ground running.”
