British Red Cross launches campaign for runners to learn vital first aid skills news article image

British Red Cross has recently launched #UpYourGame to encourage an increasingly active British public to learn first aid. They hope to encourage individuals, clubs and coaches alike to learn the skills to act in a first aid emergency.

The campaign will include a series of videos that celebrate ordinary sportspeople helping in a first aid emergency. This week they released a film on what to do if some has a cardiac arrest whilst running. There are an estimated 10.5 million runners in the UK and 90% or runners surveyed said they would like to learn first aid or improve their first aid knowledge so they can help others in a first aid emergency.

There will be two more films released throughout August and September and they will look at what to do to help someone with a head injury and someone with a broken bone. British Red Cross have created a special microsite where you can access more essential first aid guidance and step-by-step advice.

First aid emergencies can happen at any time and learning what to do can boost confidence and help you respond. We have been encouraging people to get active this summer in our #tryyourkiton campaign. Sometimes accidents are unavoidable and when out trying new activities with family and friends, knowing what to do in the initial minutes after an accident or first aid emergency can really make a difference.
