The Cabinet Office Legacy Unit has today launched a Moving More, Living More document that outlines a change in government policy towards physical activity.

Sallie Barker, Interim Chief Executive of the Sport and Recreation Alliance, said:

“The Sport and Recreation Alliance welcomes the release of the new Moving More, Living More document.

“We are encouraged that this document could be just the start of a sustained campaign by government and the Mayor of London to increase physical activity – and particularly that our calls for strong leadership and long term strategy in getting the nation moving are shared by Government.”

In our 2015 Manifesto, in which we want our members and partners to jointly shape with us, we will be calling for:

  • full recognition of the benefits of physical activity
  • a comprehensive approach to cross sector working
  • new solutions that help people to become more active on their own terms
  • a strong focus on currently underrepresented groups.

The Alliance has long stated that the best possible legacy of 2012 would be a genuine cross-government approach to physical activity. We look forward to working with the Government to making this a reality.
