Former Aviva group chief executive Andrew Moss has been appointed as the new Sport and Recreation Alliance chair, beginning an initial three-year term of office on 1 January.
Andrew, who is currently chairman of Rhino Rugby and also of City consultancy Parker Fitzgerald, has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in financial services and joins the Alliance as it seeks to grow its commercial activities.
Emma Boggis, CEO of the Alliance, believes that Andrew will help the organisation move into a new stage of its development.
“Andrew brings with him a wealth of experience from 30 years of work with some of the worlds’ largest financial organisations.. I am confident that he will help the Alliance be ‘fit for the future’ so we can make the most of the opportunities ahead of us, as well as draw on the leadership skills which saw him head one of the world’s largest insurers.”
Andrew, a life-long sports fan who led Aviva’s heavy investment in rugby union and athletics during his time at the company, is looking forward to the new challenge of representing 320 members across the sporting and recreational landscape.
“I am very pleased to have the opportunity to join the Sport and Recreation Alliance. My first priority will be getting to know the breadth of our membership. I want to make sure the work of the organisation reflects this diversity but that it also has a sharp focus, with a mission and vision which our members and stakeholders understand and buy into.
“I look forward to working with Emma and getting to know her and the rest of the team and I am excited about getting started."
Outgoing chairman, Andy Reed OBE, says that the incoming chair will enjoy strong backing from those around him.
“Andrew will be an excellent addition to the Alliance team. He will find a group of committed board members to support him, as well as an excellent executive team so I have no doubt that he will be a success. I hope he enjoys his time as chair as much as I did.”
Andrew Moss spent five years as Group CEO of Aviva, where he also worked as Group Finance Director. During that time, he oversaw a staff of 36,000, delivering operating profits of £2.5bn. Before that he spent four years as Director of Finance, Risk Management and Operations at Lloyd’s, the world’s specialist insurance market. He has also occupied senior positions at HSBC and Citibank.
This Black History Month, the Sport and Recreation Alliance sought to celebrate the significant contributions Black individuals have made and continue to make to grassroots sport and recreation by engaging with leaders throughout the sports sector.
